Introduction of Grade Based Competition - This year, the Central Mass Youth Football League voted to move away from the age and weight base format used in the past and instead organize teams by grade (referred to as the All American Division). This will eliminate the need for weigh-ins and any controversy regarding older players who are lighter in weight playing down a division. The overwhelming majority of towns in the league voted in favor of the grade based divisions based on the collective experience of coaches in recent years that regardless of weight, the age and maturity level of the player is the most critical factor in determining the appropriate level of competition for the player. For more information on this topic see the article reprinted at: www.americanyouthfootball.com/safety.asp#weight.
2010 Groton Dunstable Divisions. For the coming season, our teams will be organized by grade. We expect to have one combined team for 2nd and 3rd graders and then hope to have at least one team for each of the 4th through 8th grade levels. If there are insufficient players at any grade level, we will attempt to combine grades by moving players from the younger grade up a level if they meet the minimum age requirements. Based on past experience that may be necessary at the 8th grade level.
The following chart helps to break down how the teams will be compiled by grades, including maximum and minimum grade and age levels for each.
